TIRANA, July 15 – The Albanian Government is willing to pay the debts the country inherited from Enver Hoxha’s last years at helm. A new law will be discussed by the Economic Committee at the Parliament to return the debts to six Swiss companies.
The decision for Albania to return its debts was taken at a court in London, where the six companies declared the state owns them USD 6.8 million from more than 18 years ago. Only “Andre & Cie” claims USD 5 million of them. However, the Government Committee for the Foreign Debt has been discussing with the companies to the late payment interest rates. The court in London decided Albania will pay the whole sum in a single rate, and it has to be payee within July. Otherwise, the total sum will increase by three percent each year.
