TIRANA, Feb 15 – Parliament Speaker Jozefina Topalli said that Albania expects to sign the NATO membership agreement in the weeks to come which is the last step before the country likely becomes a full NATO member.
Topalli said that 23 countries had already ratified the protocol Albania and Croatia signed with the alliance last July, after they had first received the invitation in Bucharest in April.
“I believe next week the procedure will include the signing of this agreement between Albania and the alliance,” she told reporters, adding the Albanian parliament would first vote this membership protocol.
Albania believes full NATO membership will come at the alliance’s summit in April, which is also to commemorate its 60th anniversary.
