TIRANA, Feb 9 – Foreign Minister Lulzim Basha said that 2014 would be the year when the Balkans enter the European Union.
He referred to that date after a meeting with the Czech counterpart, who holds the EU rotating presidency, saying that it will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I.
Basha was participating at a Security Conference in Munich, Germany.
Basha said that through metaphors to World War I the Czech Republic was hinting to the the Western Balkan countries membership date into the union and the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the World War I.
Referring to that date, Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis said Monday while in Tirana that it was optimistic taking into account that first all EU member countries had to ratify the Lisbon Treaty before accepting more members in.
