Albanian actress wins Career Award at Monte Carlo festival

TIRANA, March 5 – Albanian veteran actress Yllka Mujo has been honoured with the career award at the 12th edition of the Monte Carlo Film Festival, where she was also one of the members of the international jury.

“It’s amazing. I am proud of the career and award to our actress Yllka Mujo,” said Culture Minister Mirela Kumbaro who participated in the prize award ceremony.

Mujo, 62, is known for her distinguished movie roles in Albania’s communist regime film industry. After graduating at the artistic school “Jordan Misja”, she studied acting at the Academy of Arts in Tirana, where she graduated with full honors. From 1975 she started working as an actress at the Albanian National Theater. Her acting career started at the age of 16. Yllka Mujo has played in more than a hundred theater and cinema productions.

Her son Amos Zaharia is emerging as a talented movie director and stage actor. Her daughter Elia Zaharia, is also an actress and singer, famous for her engagement to Prince Leka of Albania.
