trioTIRANA, Aug. 22 – Austrian artist Christoph Urbanetz will be the special guest of an Albanian-Austrian trio performing for three nights at the ancient Himara castle on the Albanian Riviera this week.

The concerts held in one of the busiest and most popular summer destinations of Albania will kick off tonight (August 22) as part of a special edition concerts of baroque music on the southern Albanian Riviera.

Viola da Gamba performer Christoph Urbanetz will team up with Albanian mezzo-soprano Vikena Kamenica and harpsichordist Jusuf Beshiri, the Vox Baroque festival founder, in a trio that will entertain art lovers and tourists for three consecutive nights from August 22 to 24.

The concerts come after Italian and Albanian musicians toured Albania for ten days last July performing  at the fourth edition of “Vox Baroque” festival featuring 17th and 18th century music by some of the greatest composers of this genre.

“The old music “Vox Baroque” festival is the only event of its kind in Albania. This festival is entirely dedicated to the baroque repertoire,”  says Jusuf Beshiri, a musician who shares his time between Italy and his native Albania.

“The spread of this music performed with original instruments, in full respect of the style, rules and performance of its time, the consideration of music from another historical and critical viewpoint by always seeking new approaches, shape our ideal of holding this festival each year,” he adds.
