Albanian car wash worker faces jail for using fake ID
TIRANA, Aug 10 – Maksim Pati, 24, was arrested last month while working at the Shiny car wash in Roose Road, Barrow, England and for using a fake ID to obtain work and could be given a jail sentence.
He pleaded guilty at Preston Crown Court to possessing false identity documents with intent between December 31, 2007, and July 14 of this year.
The case was adjourned. There was no application for bail.
Judge Anthony Russell QC told Pati: “This is a serious offence you stand convicted of and the court will be considering a custodial sentence.”
Prosecuting solicitor Miss Lisa O’Loughlin said Pati made the 1,400-mile trip to England from his native Albania 14 months ago, using a fake Greek ID card he had purchased for 1,500 euro (ñ,286).
He obtained a National Insurance number and gained work at the car wash but was arrested by the immigration crime team after they turned up with a warrant and found the fake ID.
The ID was in the name of Zackos. He used this to obtain flights from Greece to Spain and then entered the UK via Liverpool Airport.
He had been working there illegally and accumulated ñ8,000 in a false bank account which was frozen.
Pati could face up to 10 years in an English prison.
