TIRANA, Jan 13 – A research study of the Institute of Public Health, ISHP, has concluded that Albanian children are becoming fatter due to changing diets resulting in increased an consumption of processed foods. The study said that over 16 percent of pre-teen children in Albania are overweight.
The study monitored some 4,000 children in elementary schools across Albania.
The report said that over 60 per cent of children consume sweets and fast food while at school.
ISHP found that children in private schools were at greater risk for obesity than those in public schools because they consume more calories and possibly because larger allowances allow them to buy more snacks.
