The third annual Albanian Climbing Festival kicked off this Friday, September 22nd, for a weekend of climbing, partying and exploring nature. The festival, which was originally planned to take place in Skrapar, was moved to the Bovilla Reservoir, outside Tirana, and offered camping, sportive activities, such as yoga, zip-lining and climbing, and partying in the evenings.
Except for simply climbing, participators also contributed in route development, a demanding job of cleaning and bolting for locals and expats alike. Though a mountainous heaven, Albania is still on the early stages of developing its climbing tourism, thus making every event that contributes to route creation count. The festival featured live music, climbing guides and use of top ropes, as well as transportation to Bovilla and all climbing areas.
