TIRANA, March 8 – The Albanian Development Fund will have a USD 10 million budget for 2011, double compared to 2010, to implement the ongoing secondary road project and other sewerage and community project. This was announced on Tuesday by Innovation and IT Minister Genc Pollo who chaired the board of directors meeting of the public agency who receives funding from development banks such as the World Bank, CEB, EBRD, IPA and IDB.
“Last year the Albanian Development Fund implemented contracts worth 100 million dollars and secured 233 million dollars for upcoming projects. This year, the budget for the secondary roads project will double to build 500 km of roads all over the country,” said Pollo.
Initiated in 2008 with funding from different financial institutions, the Secondary and Local Roads Project for Albania, worth 400 million dollars, is aimed at improving access to essential services and economic markets, via the provision of all weather roads, for the resident population in the hinterland of the project roads.
Government says it has also negotiated with Germany’s KfW on a 41 million dollar project to lower poverty in the northern Shkodra, Kukes and Dibra regions by building rural roads and new water supply systems.
