TIRANA, Feb. 16 – Albanian climbers of the Dajti Mountain-Tourist Association have announced they intend to raise the Albanian national flag on the summit of Mount Everest next year when Albania celebrates its 100th anniversary of the declaration of independence.
The Albanian climbers who have already climbed the Mont Blanc and Kilimanajaro summits said during a meeting with Prime Minister Sali Berisha this week they were determined to take the risk of climbing the world’s highest peak at 8,848 metres above the sea level located in the Himalayas on the Nepal-China (Tibet) border.
“This is a great honour to the country, the nation and the flag and you will have full government support for this,” said Berisha.
