TIRANA, April.10 – An invitation from Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice has arrived to the Albanian foreign Minister, Besnik Mustafaj, who will travel to US on May 8. The news was made public by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The invitation comes at a crucial time when decisions on the status of Kosovo are in the highlight. Just two weeks ago Mustafaj was in the UN headquarters in New York to lobby pro the interest of Kosovo Albanians and pro the resolution of the status sue in a way that will benefit the stability of the region. Potential topics of discussion with the Secretary of State Rice will also be Albania’s bid to join NATO and the EU and regional cooperation. This is the first time a Secretary of State sends a invitation to an Albanian foreign minister while Mustafaj’s predecessors met with time in meetings during their visits to the US.
Mustafaj strongly backs the Ahtisari proposal and has made several public declarations to support the plan.
