TIRANA, Aug. 31 – A 39-year-old Shkodra judge was shot dead in public in Tirana’s Xhamlliku neighbourhood Thursday by her former husband, who was arrested by police near the crime scene shortly after pulling the trigger, officials said.
Fadil Kasemi, 51, who had already served time in prison for beating and threatening his ex-wife, had an official protection order against him, but it wasn’t enough to protect the victim and mother of two children, Fildez Hafizi.
She had told friends she was fearful for her life after her ex-spouse was released from prison.
The murder has drawn wide condemnation from Albanian politicians, civil society leaders as well as international representatives.
