Albanian painter from Montenegro launches exhibition in Tirana

TIRANA, Feb.27- Sadri Ahmeti launched a personal exhibition in the second hall of the National Gallery or Arts, entitled “The poem of the rainbow”. Born in 1939 in the village of Vuthaj, in the Albanian populated Plava and Gucia region of Montenegro, Ahmeti finished part of his studies in Peja (Kosova) and then immigrated to Albania in 1957. in Tirana he became known as one of the bravest artists and as the best friend of the dissident writer, Bilal Xhaferri. After finishing a painting of a Kosovo youth in chains he was arrested and punished to serve his sentence in the infamous camps of Spac and Elbasan. He resumed his dream to finish the Arts Academy only after the regime change in the 90’s. since then he has been in tens of exhibitions, personal and collective, in Albania, Belgium, USA, Turkey, Sweden, Switzerland, etc. A multifaceted artist, Sadri Ahmeti has published several poetry books such as “A laugh in the dark”, “The massacre of Tivar”, “A bath under moonlight”, etc. He has reflected upon his painful experiences in the prose book, “33 years in the uterus of words’ hell.”
In his new exhibition “The poem of the rainbow” Ahmeti combines his passion for painting with his inspiration form poetry in almost 45 aquarelle works. The exhibition is going to be open to art admirers for one week.
