TIRANA, May 8 – The Albanian parliamentary foreign relations commission passed a statement on Monday praising the June 10 visit to Albania of U.S. President George W. Bush. The statement was expected to pass at a later plenary session. Albania hailed the U.S. support of the ongoing democratic development in the tiny Balkan country and especially the special assistance to propose Albania as a full member of the northern alliance NATO, hopefully next year, as well as its efforts to become a candidate for membership in the European Union. Special attention was paid to the statement on U.S. direct involvement in resolving the Kosova issue.
Bush is expected to visit Albania June 10 during a European tour when the U.S. president will also visit other countries and take part in the G8 summit in Germany.
