TIRANA, April 11 – A young Albanian painter has drawn 29 portraits of famous Roma intellectuals and artists from around the world to provide model figures for Roma and non-Roma young generations so that they find inspiration and strength from their lives. Sead Kazanxhiu, a 25-year-old talented Roma artist, had his exhibition displayed at the CEU Monument Building in Budapest as part of events related to the International Roma Day.
“As a child, we all have to walk in the footsteps of these dear people, models of our lives such as Esma Redzepova, Robert William and Bronisława Wajs, also known as Papusza. Not in vain, today Sead is opening this exhibition with his father’s portrait, the model and the perfect example which accompanies every step of his life, regardless of age, the place where he is and the distance.”
There are 29 models in pencil and charcoal on recycled paper. The lines that are formed, on paper, were set deliberately to express more clearly the idea of spontaneity, the idea of that moment that arises suddenly.
The exhibition was organized by the Roma Access Program, Roma English Language Program, Human Right Initiative and Center for Arts and Culture.
