DURRES, April 9 – Durres port police seized seven Albanians who were attempting to illegally cross the border by hiding in a container bound for a ferry to Italy. The Albanians were hidden in a trailer when customs police found them. A woman was among them. They had paid 3,500 Euros each to be smuggled into Italy. Police also arrested the container’s owner, Artur Sula, 35.
In another operation, police in the southernmost town of Saranda arrested two persons trying to illegally cross into Greece. This follows police investigating 12 persons who had been hidden at a hotel in the town. Urim Qaze, 47, and Thanas Munguli, 29 were, for some months, suspects in illegal human trafficking in connection with those in the hotel. (Tirana Times Staff)
