TIRANA, Aug. 13 – Digging works for the construction of a hydropower plant in the district of Mat, northern Albania, have unveiled some important ancient Roman remains believed to date back to the IV-VI centuries A.D.
Shkodra’s regional cultural directorate has confirmed some bones and ceramics remains have been discovered in the Prell village of the Mat district.
Two archeologists have prepared a report on the discoveries and sent it to the National Archeological Council which will make the final decision on the site.
The discovery of ancient remains is common during digging works in Albania which boast native Illyrian as well as Roman and ancient Greek civilizations.
