Arms and drug trafficking take 7 under arrest

VLORA, Feb. 20 – Seven Albanians were arrested from police and accused of weapon and drug trafficking to neighboring Italy in the last decade.
Police operation codenamed Lighten Candle was extended to several districts in the country. Police sequestered 5 weapons, ammunition, hand grenades, other detonators and also 284 kilograms of marijuana in the Dermenas village in Fier.
There were arrested seven persons in Vlora and Fier. Vlora top policeman Vehbi Bushati said investigation had started in December, adding the confiscated material was bound for Italy.
The night before police could not stop a powerful speedboat coming from Italy to take the weapons and drugs, he said.
In a separate operation in the northern district of Shkoder police also arrested a 47-year old man accused of weapon trafficking. He was wanted since January as a collaborator with another person in the criminal activities.
