Association ‘Drini i Zi’ protests hydropower plant of Skavica

TIRANA, Jan.30- Association ‘Drini i Zi’ has gathered to issue a note of protest for the government’s plan to build a small hydropower plant in the Skavica branch of the river Drini I Zi. The association members claim that in order for this investment to happen 8.000 hectares of agricultural land are going to be flooded, generating a loss of $ 100 million in revenues form local production. The value of the energy investment however is much high and estimated at 600 million euro. Another raised concern is that about the historical values of the area though no archeological explorations have been carried out so far. The association warned that it will organize massive protests against the hydropower plant.
