Robert Elsie publishes online a great deal of information
Writer, translator and specialist in Albanian studies, Robert Elsie pays yet another service to the Albanian culture. It’s now possible to find different recordings of Albanian dialects on his webpage www.albanianlanguage.net. The website offers an introduction to the Albanian language, with some historical audio recordings in this language. In the section “Albanian Dialects,” the visitor can listen to the regional dialects of Albanian and hear how the language is spoken in the various parts of the Albanian-speaking world by simply clicking on a very detailed map of sites where the recordings have been taken. According to Elsie, there are recordings of good speakers of dialects; while others will help understand how today modern Albanian is spoken. Recordings have been taken in Albania, Kosovo, the Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, and Albanian Diaspora in general. The webpage is also enriched with historical information regarding the origins and development of the Albanian language, its extent, the current description of the Albanian, its dialects and characteristics of this language.
