Aurela Ga襠to Represent Albania in Eurovision 2011

TIRANA, Jan. 3 – Aurela Ga襠has been announced as Albania’s 2011 Eurovision representative after winning the 49th edition of the national Festivali i Kenges song contest. Ga襬 who had also previously won the Albanian Festivali i Kenges twice back in 1999 and 2001, will represent Albania for the first time in the 2011 Eurovision song contest scheduled to be held from May 12 to 14 in Germany’s Dusseldorf. Her successful comeback with Kenga ime (My song), a song composed by Shpetim Saraci received maximum points from the jury. The three-day festival held at the Palace of Congresses announced its winner on December 26. Thirty-eight songs competed for the Albania’s 2011 Eurovision representative.
Aurela Gace, who now shares her singing career between the United States and Albania, began her singing career at a very young age participating in children’s song contest where her talent was spotted. She has been working in different genres, from folk to dance and classical pop.
In a recent interview with the Eurovision’s website, Aurela said “I never thought I was going to compete again. The composer Shpetim Sara詠(the man who revamped the Albanian entry 2010 It’s all about you) convinced me. In the beginning he told me several times that I should come back for lots of reasons. Then he proposed me this material, something that I couldn’t say no to. It sounded like it was made for me.”
“Music and lyrics both have a special meaning to me. The music has a touch of the traditional southern Albanian music. The lyrics are the most personal and meaningful that I’ve ever sang. I sing about my love for music and how much I want to share it with the world. Music is so powerful, it doesn’t matter where you come from,” she told esctoday.com.
Asked if she will revamp her song, Aurela said “indeed, also my song will be revamped. We haven’t decided the language yet but I’m very excited and anxious where this will take us. With three victories of the Festivali i Kenges, Aurela becomes the runner-up female singer after legendary singer Va襠Zela with 11 victories.
Aurela’s recent release “Origjinale” (Original) featuring Dr. Flori and Marsel was the most viewed Albania video on youtube in 2010.
