Austrian band, films participate in human right festival

TIRANA, Sept. 19 – The Austrian Development Co-operation and the Austrian Embassy Tirana are supporting the International Human Rights Film Festival Albania (IHRFFA) for the third time in a row. As a privileged supporter, Austrian contributions to this year’s edition of the festival include a musical performance by a percussion group, a feature movie, and a documentary.
Austrian percussion-group “Crazy Trash Drummers” will open the seventh edition of the International Human Rights Film Festival Albania on Monday, Sept. 24 at 18.00. The famous group “Stomp” serves as a model for this music-combo that is creating their sounds with different everyday objects.
“Workingman’s Death,” a movie written and directed by Austria’s Michael Glawogger, will be the first movie to be shown in the festival. The movie depicts the extreme everyday labour conditions of different workers all around the world.
Wednesday, Sept. 26 will feature another Austrian production. Plastic Planet, a documentary film directed by Werner Boote, depicts the threats of plastic and synthetic products in all their different forms and their worldwide spreading.
Environment and human rights will be the central topics of this year’s seventh edition of the International Human Rights Film Festival in Albania. The festival scheduled for Sept. 24 to 29 will focus on people with disabilities, human trafficking, corruption, migration, totalitarian regimes, freedom of speech. The festival bringing together filmmakers and actors from around the world features short films, documentaries and features.
The International Human Rights Film Festival in Albania (IHRFFA) began in 2006 as an initiative of the Marubi Academy of Film and Multimedia and other international organizations operating in the country. Since its inception, this festival has become an annual tradition during September.
