TIRANA, May 5 – Five Balkan movies released during the 70s and 80s will be screened each week at the Central State Film Archive during May, organizers say. The movies directed by Romanian, Bulgarian, Serbian, Turkish and Greek directors were screened in Albania during the communist regime.
The event opened with the Declaratie de dragoste (Confessions of Love), a 1985 production by Romanian director Nicolae Sovu which was screened at the cinema of the Central State Film Archive on Wednesday, April 4.
Next week, May 11, will bring the Kozijat rog (The Goat Horn) movie, a 1972 production, directed by Bulgaria’s Metodi Andonov.
Former Yugoslavia is represented with the Most (The Bridge) movie directed by Hajrudin Krvavac. Organizers selected the Dogun (Wedding) movies among Turkish production and the Greek comedy Ti ekanes ston polemo Thanasi (What Did You Do in the War, Thanassi?)
The Balkan cinema comes after the screening of animated films during April featuring productions by Bujar Kapexhiu who along with Vlash Droboniku are the founders of cartoon animation in Albania.
Earlier events included the month of Albanian women directors held in March at the Central State Film Archive cinema and the screening of French movies of the 1950s and 60s during February to commemorate the 70s and 80s in Albania during the communist regime when French films were some of the few foreign productions that were not banned.
Earlier in January, the Film Archive dedicated its Wednesday cinema to the screening of the best movies and documentaries by Albanian director Dhimiter Anagnosti.
