TIRANA, Nov.5- Approximately 9.1 billion euros are necessary for the modernization of transport infrastructure in the Balkan region. These funds have been envisaged in the five-year budget of the European Union’s South East Europe Transport Observatory (SEETO), which aims to promote the development of the core regional transport network, and is funded under technical assistance from the EU under the CARDS program.
The realization of the plan is to be wrapped up by 2011, and it covers projects in Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.
The funds will be used for renovation of 8 percent of transport network, 20 percent of rail network, four airports and three seaports. (Tirana Times Staff)
