TIRANA, Sep. 6 – Albanian Foreign Minister Lulzim Basha asked the country’s lawmakers to issue a joint statement or resolution through which all the political forces express their commitment that Albania is issued an invitation for full membership in NATO at its next summit in April 2008.

Speaking at the Commission on National Security at the parliament, Basha said that together with NATO, the executive was preparing the 9th Membership Action Plan.

But he also said that all political forces in the country should be seriously committed to electoral reform and judicial reform.

Basha told the political parties that the resolution will show they are ready “to pay any political or financial price so that Albania gets an invitation for NATO membership” at the Bucharest summit in April next year.
