TIRANA, April 4 – A Belgian parliamentary delegation visited Albania this week meeting with all top Albanian officials. During his three-day visit Herman De Croo met with Albanian President Alfred Moisiu, Prime Minister Sali Berisha and Parliament Speaker Jozefina Topalli. Belgian parliament ratified Albania’s Stabilization for Association Agreement signed by the country with the European Union last June.
Moisiu stressed the need of intensification of the relations between the two countries saying that the Belgian experience would help the country’s approximation of the legislation of the European Union. De Croo highly evaluated Moisiu’s constructive and mediative role in the Albanian politics.
Berisha thanked De Croo for Belgium’s SAA ratification and for the other assistance given to the tiny Balkan country, considering his visit another step in strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries. “That is a historic contract with EU and we are making our utmost to comply with the required standards for membership,” said Berisha. De Croo urged Albania to make further efforts for the rule of law.
In his meeting with Topalli De Croos said he had noted the great desire among Albanian authorities for NATO membership and also democratic developments. He also hailed the country’s constructive role in the region. He did not forget to mention the importance of the media in the Albanian politics. That was certainly reflecting the recent conflict of the government authorities with the Top Media group. (see other article on the subject).
