TIRANA, Sep 7 – Prime Minister Sali Berisha was given the Eisenhower Medallion international award, “Ƨiven Šafter experiencing firsthand the efforts he has made to bridge peace between Albania, neighboring countries and global communities,” according to Mary Eisenhower.
The People to People International, a U.S. non-governmental organization presented during PTPI’s Americas Regional Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada USA, the prestigious “Eisenhower Medallion” international award to Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
Mary Eisenhower, PTPI’s President/CEO and granddaughter of President Eisenhower, greeted the event and said that, “Šthis award is bestowed upon Professor Doctor Sali Berisha after experiencing firsthand the efforts he has made to bridge peace between Albania, neighboring countries and global communities.”
Through a videotaped message, Berisha thanked the organization for the prestigious award and considered it an honor not only for him, but for Albanians worldwide. He said it was a special honor being selected as the second Albanian, after Mother Teresa, to whom this award is bestowed upon.
Berisha didn’t attend ceremony last evening due to his busy agenda back home to form the new cabinet. Berisha’s wife, Liri Berisha, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edith Harxhi, attended the gala ceremony to get the award.
Liri Berisha thanked People to People International and Ms. Mary Eisenhower, PTPI’s President/CEO for the award bestowed upon her husband and added that Prime Minister Berisha would continue with great devotion his job for improvement of the life of the Albanian people.
The prestigious Eisenhower Medallion was established in the honor of the 34th President of the United States of America, Dwight D. Eisenhower, who was the founder of People to People International. This award is bestowed annually upon distinguished personalities, famous worldwide, who have made an exceptional contribution to world peace.
Past Eisenhower Medallion recipients include Mother Teresa, Pope John Paul the Second, former United States Presidents George H.W. Bush, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan.
