TIRANA, Feb. 11 – Prime Minister Sali Berisha said Monday that the status of independence for Kosova was reaching its finish line.
Speaking to lawmakers in their weekly meeting, the premier said a general consensus on Kosova’s independence has already been established.
Berisha also praised efforts and actions of Kosova’s ethnic Albanian leaders as the country approaches independence.
“We are moving towards the finish line for Kosova’s status and that is one of the most historic developments of the nation and the whole region,” said Berisha.
It is much expected that Kosova will likely declare its independence on February 17.
The Albanian premier repeated Tirana’s stand that he hoped Belgrade would realize that independence remains the most realistic, and fairest, settlement which will contribute to peace and stability in the Balkans and he appealed to Serbia to use Kosova independence to launch a new chapter in its history with Albanians.
