Borana opera returns after 26 years

TIRANA, Feb. 17 – The National Theatre of Opera Ballet is making its last preparations to bring back an Albanian opera 26 years after it was premiered in Tirana. The Borana opera, composed by Albania’s Avni Mula and with libretti by Gjergj Zheji will return as a premiere at the end of February.
Directed by Nikolin Gurakuqi, the opera tells the story of an Albanian family in the 15th century during Skanderbeg’s era which fights the Ottoman occupation. The starring character of the opera, Borana is a young woman who after losing her father and brother becomes the ‘man’ of the household.
The patriotic opera, scheduled to be shown starting from February 28, will bring on stage soloists of the Opera House and its symphonic orchestra.
