TIRANA, Sep 7 – British Ambassador to Albania, Fiona McIlwham, hosted a reception at her Residence this evening to launch the English Speaking Union (ESU) in Albania.
The Ambassador described the launch of the ESU in Albania as, “ơn important and exciting opportunity – for Albania, for us and for English language learning and promotion here.”
The Ambassador added that: “Ʃt’s about our fundamental commitment to wider and ever stronger partnership and friendship with Albania. To helping this country harness her huge potential and skills.
“English is a global language. And importantly for Albania it’s a European language. ESU’s programmes offer further opportunity to equip Albanians with the tools, skills and contacts that will help support Albania on her journey towards EU membership. For the UK, that’s a key priority.”
The reception was attended by the Director General of the ESU, Mike Lake CBE, Lord Watson of Richmond CBE, Chairman of the ESU International Council, and Zenel Hoxha, Chairman of ESU Albania.
Also present at the reception were 31 international delegates, representing the English Speaking Unions of nine other countries, and Albanian guests from government, higher education and business.
