TIRANA, Oct.20 – The Bulgarian cable company, CableTel, wants to expand in the regional market. It has recently registered a subsidiary in Albania and has announced that by the end of the year it will have made ‘significant investments’ in the Albanian cable market. According to reports carried by the Bulgarian newspaper, Dnevnik, CableTel will expand its infrastructure in the direction of Albania, making it part of its cross-Balkan fiber-optic ring. ‘We control over 60% of the cable market in Macedonia and plan to ascend to the top position in Serbia within a year,’ said CableTel executive director Dimitar Radev. CableTel is also eyeing the Turkish cable market where expansion plans have been delayed by the ongoing privatization of incumbent telecommunications company Turk Telekom.
