Bulgarian president talks on Corridor 8

TIRANA, Dec 4 – Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov, who was on a two-day official visit to Albania, talked with all the countries top leaders on the bilateral relations and Albania’s prospects of integration into NATO and the European Union.
In his t뵥-ழ뵥 talks with his Albanian counterpart Bamir Topi they concentrated on joint infrastructure projects, especially Corridor 8.
At a news conference after the talks both presidents declared their will for enhancing economic relations between Bulgaria and Albania and for speeding up the construction of Corridor 8. They said they would also ask for Italy’s support in lobbying in EU for that project very important to the region.
Bulgaria and Albania are located at the two ends of the Pan-European Transport Corridor No. 8, that is supposed to connect the Albanian sea resort of Durres on the Adriatic coast with the Bulgarian Black Sea ports of Varna and Burgas, going through Skopje (Macedonia) and Sofia (Bulgaria).
Parvanov also met with m the Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha, the Mayor of the capital Tirana and also main opposition Socialist Party leader, Edi Rama, and other senior personalities in the country.
The Bulgarian delegation also included Transport Minister Petar Mutafchiev, Deputy Foreign Minister Lyubomir Kyuchukov and Deputy Economy Minister Yavor Kuyumdzhiev.
He also visited the southern town of Berat.
