TIRANA, Jan. 13 – A new IMF supported system has enabled businesses in Albania to pay their taxes online through their personal bank account.
“Taxpayers can get online information anytime on the actions carried out by the tax administration from their accounts. They can verify administrative documents produced by the administration in their accounts and get informed electronically from the administration of any changes to the regulations that enter into force,” says Erjon Prifti, a director at the General Tax Directorate.
Through the online system, companies can declare their balance sheets, income statements, or the change in employees without having to declare them with the National Registration Center or the employment offices.
Companies will also have access to declare online other taxes such as mining royalty, the withholding tax, national taxes or tariffs.
“Businesses can check everything from their online account including the confirmation of their payment,” tax officials say.
The IMF-supported system, worth around 10 million euros also handles complaints within 48 hours. The new system also makes possible the electronic VAT refunds and will soon also make available online certificates businesses need.
