Bylis Theatre wins Kosovo Drama Festival

This weekend, the Kosovo National Theatre will stage two dramas in Tirana

TIRANA, Jan. 31 – Albania’s Bylis Theatre of the southern city of Fier has won the best drama prize in the Kosovo Pan-Albanian Drama Festival, Flaka e Janarit “The January Flame” held in Kosovo’s Gjilan last January. The Bylis theatre competed with the Millionaire comedy written by Pellumb Kulla, starring veteran Luftaj Paja, who grabbed the best actor prize.
Sanie Hoti of the Durres “Aleksander Moisiu” theatre was also awarded the best actress prize for her performance in the “An Alien’s visa-free travel” comedy written by Albania’s Hervin Culi.
The best director prize went to Kosovo’s Fatos Berisha.
Dozens of artists from Kosovo, Albania and Macedonia join each year in the Kosovo “January Flame” multi-cultural event hosted by the Gjilan city.
This year’s festival marked the 20th anniversary of its foundation also bringing performances of traditional songs and dances and a poetry competition.
This weekend, the Kosovo National Theatre will stage two dramas in Tirana. On Saturday, Feb. 5 Kosovo actors will stage the Albanian drama called “Heshtja” (Silence) written by Refet Abazi and directed by Arta Kallaba. Sunday will bring on the stage of the National Theatre in Tirana the “Death and the Maiden,” a psychological drama by Chilean playwright Ariel Dorfman.
