TIRANA, April 23 – The Central Election Commission decided that a new vote should be held in Elbasan May 6 for the post of mayor because of irregularities in the first round Feb. 18. The decision means that Qazim Sejdini of the opposition Socialist party should run again for the post despite the fact that the Electoral College had declared him as the winner. The opposition said they would not accept another vote considering the CEC decision as illegal threatening to start protests in Elbasan. They even said they would create a human shield against the vote. On Wednesday late afternoon the opposition held a symbolic protest in Elbasan, adding they have started to prepare a penal case against the CEC head Clirim Gjata for the decision.
