TIRANA, April 11 – Albanian Education Minister Myqerem Tafaj is on a visit to China to continue the strengthening of bilateral ties noted recently between the two countries.
Earlier this year Prime Minister Sali Berisha praised China’s economic progress and also said that because of that Albanian students should start to consider Chinese as a possibility to be included in the school curriculum as a foreign language.
Tafaj visited in China the Beijing Foreign Studies University which is the only educational institute there to teach the Albanian language. Tafaj learned that 133 Chinese had graduated that branch and have been or are now working at the Foreign Ministry of Commerce.
Tafaj said that though English will become compulsory for the higher education level, Chinese too may be a selective foreign language for that education level too. He said that it is good that Albanian students learn Chinese which plays an important role in job finding as more Chinese companies are expected to arrive in Albania.
