TIRANA, Aug. 18 – The Citizens Advocacy Office, a non-governmental organization, has offered suggestions on how to resolve the energy crisis that has been crippling Albania with power cuts from six to 20 hours a day.

Additionally, the government now imports some 8 million kWh at a very high price while producing only 5 million kWh a day.

And the upcoming winter brings little hope of an improved situation.

Also, the government’s efforts, investment and deals on new alternative resources will need at least 18 more months to become operational.

However, the CAO offered some new ideas on resolving the energy crisis, basically saying alternate resources should be promoted.

Solar energy is one of such alternative in a country which has sunny days most of the year. The government should compile a strategy and a plan on promoting this resource, says the group.

All public institutions should be planned based upon drawing their energy from solar energy. No new building should receive proper licensing unless using solar power, says the Citizens Advocacy Office.
