TIRANA, May 1 – The Communist Terror pavillion, open at the National Museum of History in Tirana since early 2012 is also being featured in an album. Luan Malltezi, the director of the National Museum of History says the publication tries to prove through archive materials that the 45-year Albanian communist regime led by Stalinist dictator Enver Hoxha was one of the harshest in Europe.
The Communist terror pavillion opened in February 2012 featuring personal items and pictures of around 100,000 Albanians who were imprisoned, sent to internment camps or executed during the 46 years of the repressive regime.
There were 23 prisons and 48 deportation camps in Albania. According to partial records kept by the interior ministry, 5,157 people were killed, another 9,052 died in political prisons, 17,900 were imprisoned and 30,383 were deported during this period.
