As the Tourist Season progresses
Concerts move from Tirana to the coast
The coast has become the summer cultural scene of the country. Numerous cultural events have moved from the capital city of Albania, Tirana, to the sunny beaches of the Adriatic and Ionian Seas. The Dutch internationally renowned DJ, DJ Tiesto, was at “Havana Beach Club”, Dh쳭i, on the south coast of the country on the 6th of August. A few days later, the French renowned DJ, Laurent Wolf, held a live performance at Tropical Complex at the coast of Durr쳠on the 9th of August.
Musical concerts, exhibitions and book fairs have also migrated from the capital city to the numerous cities of the Albanian coast, or to other major cities. During the days of August, sea-goers and holiday-goers at Velipoj묠Vlor묠Himar묠Sarand묠Elbasan, Kor諬 Fier, Pogradec attended concerts of the 4th edition of the Marathon of Popular Music.
Film lovers can attend the International Film Summerfest (ISF) which will hold its second annual competition at Durr쳬 from the 22nd to the 30th of August 2009.
But the city that will concentrate the cream of the future announced cultural events will be the city of Vlora.
Vlora Wave
11 – 16 August
From the 11th to the 16th of August 2009, at the stadium of the city of Vlora, on the southern coast of Albania, a series of concerts will be organized under the label “Vlora Wave”. The starring guests will be Italian contemporary music choice names like Alexa, Marco Masini, La fame di Camilla, Eurosmith, etc. Starring from the Albanian bands will be Bojken Lako and the Fish.
The 10th edition of the Vlora Book Fair
18 – 23 August
From the 18th to the 23rd of August 2009, the main avenue of the city of Vlora will host the tenth edition of the Vlora Book Fair. Nearly 50 editors from Albania, Kosovo and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) will participate in this event, displaying almost 5000 books. Among them, nearly 600 are reported to be new titles.
The city of Vlor롨olds two book fairs each year. The first is organized in spring, while the academic year continues and so students can frequent it. The second is organized in summer, when the city and the nearby areas are flocked with holiday-goers from Albania, Kosovo, FYROM and Montenegro.
The Vlora Book Fair follows the Ulqin Book Fair, held at the coastal city of Ulqin, in Montenegro, and where a large number of Albanian editors took part. This was the 9th edition of the Ulqin Book Fair.
