TIRANA, Nov. 28 – Young contemporary artist Leonard Qylafi has opened a solo exhibition at the Zeta art centre in Tirana where he is showcasing the Museum of Nature, a painting-based project which consists in a series of oil on canvas paintings in different dimensions. Initially started as a series of photographs taken by the artist inside the Museum of Nature in Tirana/Albania, the project goes through a careful selection process. “Each of the selected pictures becomes the source for the paintings; they maintain the original composition and are ‘portraits, ‘figures’ and interiors. The transferring process from, photographs into paintings is a synthetic one, the artist’s research now is purely focused on visual and pictorial aspect of the subjects .Once he starts the painting process, the artist is metaphorically “free” from the photographs and out of the museum. He re-create through painting, still but complex subjects which are, lonely, mysteries proud and beautiful, wrapped by the light which gives to them a timeless dimension,” says the curator of the exhibition.
Having graduated from the Academy of Arts in Tirana, Leonard Qylafi, 33, is a contemporary artist who works in different mediums such as video, painting, photography. He has participated in several international exhibitions in Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Austria, the United States. The exhibition at the Zeta art centre at Abdyl Frasheri street in Tirana will be open until December 10.
