It was the first time that a member of the English Royal Family, Princess Alexandra of Kent, cousin to Queen Elizabeth II, followed the performance of a characteristic Albanian folk dance by Albanian children, put on in her honour.
On Day Two of the “Spring Fair” for Charity held last week at Kensington Town Hall, in the centre of London, Albanian children from the “Shpresa Program” Dancing Group, performed a traditional Albanian folk dance in honour of Princess Alexandra, who is also the Honourable President of this Fair. “Princess Alexandra was impressed by the performance, but also by the costumes. She asked what these children did in London, and about their families.
Lightheartedly, she said she thought that the Albanian language sounded like the Italian. The Princess was thrilled when she was told that these children had traveled from East London to perform before her,” said Mrs. Robo, the wife of the Albanian Ambassador to Great Britain Mr. Kastriot Robo. The Spring Fair is an annual charity event held in London and first began in 1959. It is organized by the Diplomatic Corps accredited to London. The same as last year, Albania was represented by a special pavilion this year too.
