GJIROKASTRA, March 11 – Police arrested a customs official and also a businessman for contraband after they had managed to avoid payment of customs taxes for a considerable number of TV sets and other electronic items.
Pellumb Kaziu, 37, from Tirana had managed to cross the Kakavie border point in southern Gjirokastra without paying customs for 16 TV sets and other electronic items he had in his vehicle.
Economic anti-crime police followed his trail of avoiding taxation and also found out he was assisted by Agron Basha, 33, of the Kakavie customs office.
Basha also held some false documentation. Later police found out that he had also been sentenced to imprisonment for theft in 1995.
