TIRANA, June 20 – Eris Hoxha of the governing Democratic Party, won during a partial election held last Sunday in an area within the Pogradec district.
Hoxha beat Saimir Hoxha, known for his Fiks Fare show on the private Top Channel television station.
Hoxha won by only 129 votes in an area that traditionally votes for the Democrats.
There were minor incidents during the voting day, with the worst being an attempt to lynch a journalist sent by the Top Channel to cover the election.
There was a notable presence of police and top officials, including many ministers and lawmakers from both main parties.
Following political squabbling, the Central Election Commission decided to count the votes by itself.
At the end, the CEC voted unanimously to confirm the results.
Hoxha replaces another Democrat lawmaker who was killed in a traffic accident.
