TIRANA, June 23 – Deutsche Telekom AG, Europe’s largest telephone company, received approval from the Greek parliament for an agreement to take control of Hellenic Telecommunications Organization SA.
Deutsche Telekom is seeking growth through Hellenic Telecom’s wireless assets in Romania, Bulgaria, Albania and Macedonia. Under the agreement, Deutsche Telekom will pay Greece about 442 million Euros, or 29.75 Euros a share, for a three percent stake.
Hellenic Telecom has stakes in former phone monopolies in Serbia and Romania and more than 16 million mobile phone clients in Greece, Romania, Albania, Macedonia and Bulgaria. (Tirana Times Staff)
