Drug traffickers arrested, marijuana plants found by police

TIRANA, July 11 – Romeo Haderri, 30, was arrested and charged with trafficking some 118 kilograms of marijuana found at a border crossing into Greece this past May.

Police found that finger prints on the drugs belonged to Haderri. When the drugs were found, police also arrested the driver of the bus.

This year, Vlora police have arrested 35 citizens for drug trafficking and planting marijuana in the district. District police said they had also cut more than 100,000 cannabis plants, almost five times more than from the same time last year.

Opportunity Albania, which assists small business, seeks to become a full-service bank

TIRANA, July 11 – Opportunity Albania has asked the government to allow it to be converted from an organization into a bank.

Opportunity Albania is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and is designed to assist small and medium-size businesses in the country.

The request was made at a meeting that the organization’s president, Robert Hart, had with Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
