Drugs burnt in anti-drug demonstration

TIRANA, June 8 – On Monday police made an open show of burning some 28 kilograms of heroin, seven kilograms of cocaine as well as other drugs they had seized during anti-drug operations.
Fighting drug traffic and their use in the country has turned into a top priority for the country’s police.
Albania is also a transit route mainly for the heroin coming from central Asia to Turkey, Bulgaria or the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and then to Albania, destined for other western European countries.
During this time police have also begun operations throughout the country to stop the planting of cannabis sativa.
