TIRANA, April 18 – The Durres Port Authority has announced the fourth Open Port event in the country’s biggest port will be held in the closing weekend of next May. Speaking at a recent seminar on tourism, the head of the Durres Port Authority Eduard Ndreu said the event which is becoming an annual tradition ahead of the start of the new tourist season will be held from May 24 to 26.
More than 150,000 Albanian and foreign citizens visited Durres Port in last year’s Open Port edition. Port Authorities said a tourist information centre would be established soon at the Port’s passenger terminal in cooperation with the Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA).
The Durres Port will be open to all visitors this weekend in a cultural event offering entertainment for all ages. The fourth edition of the “Open Port” will be a non-stop 72-hour event from May 24 to 26 bringing a series of cultural, sports and entertainment events.
Several events have also been scheduled for children who can practice skating, ride their bikes and attend special programmes from the children’s ensemble songs and dances.
A photo exhibition dedicated to the coastal city of Durres will also be open to visitors during this edition.
The Port of Durres is by far the largest commercial port in Albania, transporting on average around 80 per cent of the country’s international ship-borne traffic. The port is currently involved in four main activities, ferry operations, cargo operations, container operations and oil storage operations. Durres Port, owned by the Albanian government, is a core part of the regional transport network in Southeast Europe, and an important centre for international trade and travel.
