Highlights from the Lowlands – touring Dutch Cinema is presenting its 4th edition in Tirana, Albania, which has become a tradition for the Albanian cinema lovers as of 2009. The films in this edition contain something intriguingly withdrawn and hidden. The headline of all films is “relationships”. It all comes out in a refined manner – how desperate we are all to look for bonding, for belonging, for not being alone. Especially relationships between mothers, fathers and daughters, friends, people and society is being addressed in a very profound manner in both fiction and documentaries. There is the suspense of words not spoken, the intensity of pain not openly expressed and the outspokenness of behavior that originates from the natural, but remains inhibited. Carefully selected, these films are very communicative, posing questions and opening important debates and making us think and rethink our deeds. At the same time, they are funny, entertaining and uplifting.
This Dutch Cinema Touring with current film industry productions, unique in its kind, is the result of the initiative taken by “Foundation Cultural Aid (Stichting Cultural Aid)”, Movie Fund (Film Fonds)” and the “Eye” Film Institute of the Netherlands. The screening of this collection of contemporary cinema pieces is made possible through the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and is hosted by Marubi Film Academy.
