TIRANA, Aug. 20 – The run-up to the June 21 local elections was accompanied by a sharp increase in currency outside banks, according to a monthly report by the country’s central bank.
Data shows currency outside depository corporations rose to 226.5 billion lek (€1.59 bln) in June 2015, up 9.2 billion lek (€64.8 mln) compared to last April, registering the biggest increase for this year.
A considerably part of the money is believed to have been used for campaigning by political parties and candidates.
