TIRANA, April 30 – Eight local Muslims have begun a hunger strike to protest the allegedly below-market sale price of property belonging to the Muslim community.
The Muslim Community administration had been accused of selling 1,600 square meters near Tirana’s main Skanderbeg Square for 800 euro/m2 at a time when the market price was much higher.
The eight Muslims who started the hunger strike at the Mosque of Tabake accused community head Selim Muca for authorizing the sale.
The hunger strikers are demanding a renegotiation with the buyer to get a much higher price for the land.
“They want to find a price in accordance with the market economy rules,” said the mosque’s mufti Elvis Naci.
